LOCATION:                          Kicking Horse Job Corps – Ronan, MT

 

SALARY:                              $16.98 to $19.74 per hour

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) within the definition of the CSKT Drug Testing policy and is subject to random alcohol and drug testing. The successful applicant if not already employed by the Tribes must pass a pre-hire drug test and will be required to serve a six-month probationary period.

 

DUTIES:

  • Provide a safe and secure environment that will allow a student to maximize potential.
  • Provide a positive role model including the demonstration of good work habits.
  • The CPP Career Counselor is responsible for intervention when observing and confronting inappropriate behavior exhibited by students.
  • Provide enforcement of center riles.
  • Follow the guidelines established by the Personnel Rules, Regulation, and Procedures Manual adopted by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
  • Responsible for modeling, mentoring appropriate employability skills and social skill for Career Success Standards.
  • Conduct intake interviews for new enrollees.
  • Provide initial and on-going assessment on all assigned students during the students first sixty days of enrollment.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions with all assigned CPP students.
  • Conduct individual counseling session on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide services needed to fulfill the role of maximum benefits coordinator for students assigned. The counselor will perform as the maximum benefits Evaluation of Student Progress (ESP) team leader for CPP students with coordination from the Directors of Career Technical Training and Educational Training.
  • Act as a contact for the Center with parents, Admission Counselors, and outside tribal, state and federal agencies.
  • Conduct the procedures needed for successful accomplishment of student commitment to the Job Corps Program.
  • Assist the Center in retrieval of CPP students who have gone on leave for emergency or personal reasons.
  • Provide assistance on resolving student issues and barriers that would hinder success in the program.
  • Assist the CDSS Coordinator with assignment of students to the staff mentoring program; monitor and review the mentoring program for effectiveness.
  • Provide each assigned CPP student enrollment group instruction in goal setting, employability skills, job search skills, social skills, and career development skills.
  • Provide leadership training for students.
  • Conduct group activities during the Introduction to Center Life of CPP.
  • Develop, organize, and facilitate groups that address specific needs demonstrated by the Center’s CPP students.
  • Participate as an active and effective member of the Center’s TEAP core group and the CDSS group.
  • Coordinate activities with venter staff to ensure effectiveness of the Center’s Behavior Management System.
  • Participate in scheduled mental health staffing.
  • Meet with Residential Counselors serving the same caseload on a scheduled basis to approach in dealing with each student.
  • Help support and facilitate activities within the Diversity Program.
  • Coordinate and facilitate activities within the Center’s Introduction to Center Life program as part of CPP.
  • Provide support for the center’s leave accountability systems.
  • Maintain a counseling file for each student in CPP.
  • Document counseling services rendered.
  • Develop and distribute documentation in response to counselor referral.
  • Submit written student reports and evaluations as needed for:
    1. Senior Career Counselor and Director request
    2. Review board referrals
    3. Student referrals to mental health consultant
    4. Proper requests from outside agencies
    5. TEAP
    6. Center Nurse
  • Develop and submit required ESP documents in a timely manner.
  • Provide counseling related assistance as needed to other staff which will enhance the programmatic functions within Job Corps.
  • Assist the CDSS Coordinator in developing training opportunities for center staff members.
  • Partake in Job Corps required training both on and off center.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled Residential Living Training sessions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (AS REFLECTED ON THE TRIBAL EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION)

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of counseling and/or human services including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction and one (1) year experience in counseling or related field. 
  • Must possess a valid Montana State operator’s License.
  • Employee is required to pass a background investigation per PL 101-630.
  • This is a Tested Designated Position (TDP) in compliance with the Drug and Alcohol Policy.
